PROGRAM AREAS
We have four interrelated program areas; Education; Health and Wellbeing; Livelihood; and Water,
Sanitation and Hygiene. With this diversity we are well positioned to tackle the multifaceted nature of
problems faced by the urban poor thereby impacting both their human, social and economic assets. We
embed research and advocacy for better services in all our work. For our on-going projects click on our
projects tab.
Education:
Education means opportunities and empowerment. Under the education component, we support
vocational and formal education through hands-on trainings, apprenticeship placements and support for
scholastic materials to school going children. Through these, children and young people are given skills
that enable them to be employable and thus a foundation for a productive and better future.
Health and well-being:
A Health is a key driver of economic productivity and well-being. Under Health and well-being, we
empower children, young people and their families with knowledge and means to lead a healthy life.
Our health and well-being programs are in the areas of; Sexual and reproductive health; child and
maternal health, HIV/AIDS prevention, community-based epidemic preparedness and management,
substance abuse prevention, and gender-based violence among others.
Livelihoods:
A big proportion of the slum population is illiterate and lacks professional and employability skills. Thus,
livelihood programs aim to empower young people out of school and their families with vital life skills as
well as resources to take up productive livelihoods and employment opportunities. This is done through
financial literacy and skills building. The skills include; computer skills, basic book keeping, marketing,
tailoring, bakery and pastries and soap making among others.
Water, sanitation and Hygiene:
We conduct community sensitization on Safe Water Chain, solid waste management at household and
community levels, and provision of chlorine dispensers at water source points.
